“Being black in America, I always remember and cherish the fact that I am a result of those before me who fought and risked their lives for my freedom and life opportunities. I am proud to be a strong black woman in this country and choose to be my authentic self in any environment I may enter, loving the skin that I’m in and being comfortable expressing my thoughts and beliefs. Although I’m very aware of structural and institutional barriers that still exist to negatively impact the lives of those of color, I remain positive and champion others to continue pushing forward reaching their goals and dreams, while being the change they wish to see.”
