“Being black is the most beautiful, painful, scary, frustrating, exhilarating, empowering, isolated, connected existence. I find comfort in knowing I'm not alone in this struggle for equality, this fight for more for my life and that of my child. I can almost share my entire life story with another black person with just a steadied glance. They may not know the details, but they know. They know because they live it. We share the same fear that maybe this is it. This is what life has to offer. But I just hold on to hope, and I continue to fight and pray. I try to push my anger down and use it fuel me to keep fighting. As James Baldwin said ‘To be black and conscious in America is to be in a constant state of rage.’ Today, I'm just fighting to not let my rage consume me.”
